MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) —  A piece of machinery fell onto a 29-year old construction worker, killing him at a Miami construction site, fire officials said.

The machine was being hoisted by a crane when it fell on the man as he stood on the 37th floor of a condominium building.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll says the equipment that fell onto the man about 4 p.m. Wednesday weighed more than about 2,000 pounds.

Carroll says the man was already dead when rescue workers arrived at the site. His name has not been released.

The Miami Herald  reports crews used another crane to get the man's body down from the building, which will be 54 stories when completed.

Miami police are investigating the incident.
