BOSTON (CBSMiami) – As the Miami Heat prepare for their second game in as many nights, they may have to play without one of their key contributors.
Heat center Hassan Whiteside is officially listed as questionable for Wednesday night's game against the Boston Celtics after suffering a hand injury during Miami's last-second loss in Milwaukee the night before.
Whiteside slashed his right hand open between his middle and ring finger, a cut that required ten stitches to close, and he missed the entire second half.
"I don't know if I'm going to be able to play," said Whiteside. "We're going to see how it feels day-to-day, just see how long the stitches are in."
The injury happened while Whiteside was trying to a shot by Milwaukee's Miles Plumlee. He hit his hand on the rim and immediately noticed the blood dripping down on the court.
Whiteside said after the game that he didn't know whether he would be able to play through the injury or not, but odds are that he will at least sit out Miami's game in Boston.
Miami's next game will be Friday in Atlanta before returning home for a Sunday matchup against Detroit.
So far this season Whiteside is averaging 11 points on 61 percent shooting, 9.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.
