MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Heat have made a couple of moves as Thursday's NBA Trade Deadline approaches.
Miami announced that the team has traded Jarnell Stokes and $700,000 in cash to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for a conditional 2018 second round pick.
Stokes only appeared in five games for the Heat this season but was very successful playing for Miami's D-League affiliate in Sioux Falls, averaging 20.6 points on 67.3 percent shooting, 10.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.06 steals in 30.8 minutes.
He was originally acquired by Miami along with Beno Udrih in the trade with the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this season that sent Mario Chalmers and James Ennis away.
In a separate move reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Heat have traded Brian Roberts and a 2021 second round pick to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Roberts had only been a member of the Heat for two days after being acquired in the three-team deal that saw Chris 'Birdman' Andersen fly away from Miami.
The moves helps the Heat in a financial way, dropping the team under the luxury tax line by $218,000, which will save them $5.8 million in penalties.
