MIAMI (CBSMiami) – There is a lot of excitement surrounding the two players selected by the Miami Heat in the 2015 NBA Draft.
Miami's 1st round pick, Justise Winslow, is expected to contribute right away and become part of coach Erik Spoelstra's main rotation.
There was less certainty about the Heat's 2nd round pick, Josh Richardson, but things have certainly changed in the months since he was drafted.
Richardson excelled during the Heat's Summer League games and appears poised to join Winslow as a main contributor in the upcoming season.
Apparently the team agrees with that sentiment.
The Heat announced on Monday that they have signed Richardson, news that was first reported a week ago.
Richardson, who will be 22 when the season begins, agreed to a three-year rookie deal that will pay him $2.5 million. According to RealGM, the deal is fully guaranteed for the first season and partially guaranteed for year two.
Last month Richardson appeared in a combined 10 games, with six starts, during the Orlando Pro Summer League and the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
He averaged 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals while playing 26.1 minutes per game.
Richardson's best game came in his Summer League finale against the Sacramento Kings, when he scored 23 points and had four steals in just over 30 minutes.
Miami selected Richardson with the 40th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft after he played four seasons at the University of Tennessee.
