Heat Players Welcome Overtown Students Back With School Supplies

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A day if firsts in Miami Dade at Dunbar elementary in Overtown. Kids wore smiles while parents were appreciative of the amped up security, one parents saying, "I like to see the officers here. I feel more like my kids are protected..what's going on in the world you have to have a little more protection."
The Miami Heat stopped by to drop off school supplies for students which brought back memories for one player, Rodney McGruder.
"I was one of these kids before so just brings back a lot of memories I was just asking the kids how does it feel to be back the first day of school because it brings back a lot of memories."
Superintendent Alberto Carvahlo even speaking about the day he looks forward to each year saying, "It's my favorite day of the year we are welcoming back 350,000 kids 48,000 employees 20,000 teachers we also transported 52,000 kids this morning."
