FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A hearing scheduled Thursday afternoon in the case of self-confessed Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz was canceled suddenly just moments before the hearing was supposed to start.
According to the State Attorney's office, there was some sort of personal situation with the judge and that is why the hearing was canceled.
No new date has been set for the hearing.
A previously scheduled hearing regarding Cruz's confession is still on for July 16th.
Lawyers for Cruz, 19, were set to ask the judge Thursday to preserve most of the evidence in the case.
The defense wants to have investigators keep materials, such as field notes, that may have some bearing on the case.
The motion does not object to the destruction of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High building where 17 people were killed, and 17 others injured, in the Valentine's Day shooting.
Also in July a judge will consider a motion seeking to prevent public release of Cruz's statement to detectives after the shooting. The Cruz lawyers say it would jeopardize his fair trial rights.
Cruz faces the death penalty if convicted.
