Guilty Plea Set In FBI Chat Room Terror Case
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A man accused of supporting terrorism is set to plead guilty Friday at a change-of-plea hearing in Miami.
Gufran Ahmed Kauser Mohammed is allegedly one of two men charged in an FBI online chat room sting operation.
Mohammed is set to stand before U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro for the hearing.
He had previously pleaded not guilty. Mohammed is a naturalized U.S. citizen from India who relocated in 2011 to Saudi Arabia.
Prosecutors say an undercover FBI employee posing as a terror financing middleman used the chat room to pretend to work with Mohammed on financing for al-Qaida and affiliated terror groups in Syria and East Africa.
The other defendant, Mohamed Hussein Said of Kenya, is maintaining his not guilty plea. He's accused of identifying recruits for a Syrian terrorist group and helping finance Africa's al-Shabaab terror organization.
