Gov. Scott Declares State Of Emergency Ahead Of Tropical Storm Hermine

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency in parts of the state ahead of Tropical Storm Hermine.
On Wednesday, the governor issued an executive order declaring the state of emergency in 42 counties before Hermine had developed into a tropical storm.
"Last night, hurricane and tropical storm watches were issued along Florida's Gulf Coast from Pasco County to Gulf County. We also learned that the National Hurricane Center expects Tropical Depression Nine to become a Tropical Storm sometime today," said the governor.
Gov. Scott has a message for the public covered under the state of emergency order.
"It is crucial that every Floridian has a plan in place to ensure their families, homes and businesses are fully prepared," said Scott.

He said he declared a state of emergency to make sure the public would be covered and ready.
"By declaring a state of emergency in advance of this storm, we are ensuring that state, regional and local agencies can work together to meet the needs of our communities. We will continue to do all we can to keep our families and visitors safe and informed as this storm approaches our state," said Scott.
On the forecast track, the center of the tropical storm will approach the northwest Florida coast in the warning area on Thursday evening. Strengthening is forecast during the next 36 hours, and the tropical storm is expected to gain near hurricane strength by the time landfall occurs.
