TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - Former state Sen. Dan Gelber will provide legal representation at the Florida Supreme Court for an anti-casino group trying to get an initiative on the 2018 ballot.

Gelber and other members of his Miami-based firm, Gelber Schachter & Greenberg, P.A, will represent the political committee "Voters in Charge," which has collected enough petition signatures to trigger a Supreme Court review of its proposed ballot language.

The proposal, known as "Voter Control of Gambling in Florida," would require future statewide votes to authorize casino-style games including blackjack, craps and roulette.

The amendment would take away the Legislature's ability to approve casinos in Florida but would not affect tribal casino operations, which are regulated by federal law. As of April 30, Voters in Charge had received all of its funding from the anti-gambling group No Casinos Inc.
