Memorial Mass For FSU Grad Found Dead
DAVIE (CBSMiami) - Friends and family said goodbye Sunday to a 23-year old, Florida State University graduate who was found dead in an abandoned Tallahassee building.
Dressed in Hawaiian shirts to reflect Ryan Uhre's bright spirit, family and friends gathered for a memorial mass to say goodbye to the FSU graduate.
"He wouldn't want us to be like this. He'd want us in Hawaiian shirts and laughing and celebrating so that's what we're gonna do," said Emalie Styles, a friend.
A well-loved young man with a promising future, Uhre grew up in Weston, wrestled at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and was planning to go to law school.
He was living in Tallahassee when he disappeared Superbowl Sunday.
His family and friends posted fliers in North and South Florida, held vigil, and waited for word. After searching, hoping, and praying, Uhre's family learned last week his body was found in an abandoned building in downtown Tallahassee in the same area he was last seen.
Police still have not said how he died.
"It's just been a roller coaster because all we've been doing is thinking we're going to find him, we're going to find him, he's going to show up. He went on a Ryan Uhre adventure, he's in Mexico but it didn't end that way and we all lost one of our best friends," said friend Matthew Malo.
Uhre's friends say he left them with many happy memories. After his memorial mass, in Davie, loved ones released yellow balloons into the sky.
"We'll always think about him he's always in our hearts and we'll miss him everyday but we know he's home now," said friend Andrew Ball.
