Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando Top List For Staycations

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Summer and vacations go hand and hand but this year nearly 66 percent of Americans say they don't plan to go anywhere, according to the personal finance website WalletHub.

Thankfully, Florida has three of the top spots on the company's 2016 list of Best & Worst Cities for Staycations.

To come up with the, the company's number crunchers compared the 150 largest cities across 28 key metrics including how much it costs to go to the movies or bowling, golf courses, frozen-yogurt shops and spas per capita.

Coming in at number one for the best staycation spot was Orlando, followed by Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa. Salt Lake City, Utah and Scottsdale, Arizona rounded out the top five. The only other Florida city to make the top ten was St. Petersburg which came in ninth.

So which cities are the worst for a staycation.

Chula Vista, California came in dead last with Oxnard, California and New York, New York not far behind.

Other interesting findings:

•Columbus, Ga., has the most parks per 100,000 residents, 213.37, which is 22.5 times more than in Hialeah, the city with the fewest, 9.47.

•Orlando has the most ice-cream and frozen-yogurt shops per 100,000 residents, 57.15, which is 13 times more than in Detroit, the city with the fewest, 4.31.

•Buffalo, N.Y., has the lowest bowling costs, $3.09, which is nearly four times less expensive than in New York City, the city with the highest, $12.28.
