FSU Board To Pick New President
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — The search for a new president for Florida State University is almost over.
The FSU board will meet Tuesday to pick a new leader from a group of finalists that includes state Sen. John Thrasher who is a former House speaker and chairman of Gov. Rick Scott's re-election campaign.
Thrasher is seen as the front runner for the post. He's competing against three other contenders from Colorado, Alabama and West Virginia who have academic backgrounds.
But Thrasher's candidacy has come under fire from some students and faculty who have criticized his lack of academic experience.
FSU has been without a president since Eric Barron stepped down to take the top post at Penn State University.
