Fort Lauderdale strip mall shooting injures two men
MIAMI - Two men were rushed to the hospital after they were shot early Monday morning in Fort Lauderdale.
Police said just after 7 a.m. they received multiple calls about a shooting at a strip mall in the 800 block of NE 62 Street, just east of I-95.
Arriving officers found two men who had been shot. They were taken to North Broward Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Residents who live nearby say they are frustrated. They tell us this isn't the first time something like this has happened.
"We woke up to a lot of officers outside," said John Bracknell.
He said the sound of sirens is nothing new in the neighborhood.
"These things have been going on for a long time," said Bracknell.
The shooting happened in front of a lounge and the people who live behind it said it stays open all night.
"There's been half a dozen shootings, three or four murders. They are allowed to stay open until 8:30 in the morning and we definitely don't feel safe," said a man who lives in the area.
"We're a nervous wreck. We don't feel safe. You never know if you're going to wake up in the morning. You could get shot while you're sleeping," he added.
According to police, there have been more than 70 calls to this address within the last year. Most were for noise disturbances, and a few for assaults and fights.
As far as what prompted this early morning shooting, that remains unclear.
