2 Bodies Found On Fort Lauderdale Beach Not Far From Another Violent Scene That Led To Police Pursuit
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Fort Lauderdale police are working to determine if a double homicide discovered Tuesday morning is connected to a chase and roll over on I-95.
Det. Ali Adamson said the bodies, who appeared to be two men in their 40s, were discovered in the 3000 Block of North Ocean Blvd. at around 6:15 a.m.
"Upon arrival we were able to determine that it appeared they had been stabbed. Both males were pronounced dead on the scene," said Adamson.
The incident happened in an upscale neighborhood with oceanfront homes. People who live nearby walk this area often.
One woman told CBS4 she spoke with one of the victims on Monday. She said he was kind and she would see him often on her morning walks. He appeared homeless.
"Just to think there are two bodies there that's terrible, disturbing," said Steven Dworkin, who also lives nearby.
The scene was just a few blocks away from another incident at a vacant lot. Neighbors saw a Jeep parked there. It appeared a man was camping.
Michael Jones is one of the owners of the lot. He said when he approached the Jeep it quickly turned violent.
"He got up, he came over and he shoved me to the ground, started screaming at me, told me he was going to kill me," Jones recalled. "I said, 'You're right, you're right.' I saw crazy in his eyes… I got back in my car."
But that's not where it ended.
"I got back in the car at that point to try and put it in gear to get the hell out of here, there was no time. He floored it, put it in reverse, floored it and slammed right into my Porsche," Jones said.
Jones said the man took off, but came back as police were taking a report. Officers went after him, leading to a pursuit onto I-95, ending when the Jeep flipped over near the Palm Beach County line. The man inside was taken into custody.
While it has not been determined that the two incidents are connected, Fort Lauderdale PD is not ruling it out.
"The incidents occurred within close proximity and timeframe to one another and as a result detectives are looking into the possibility that the two incidents may be related," Det. Adamson said in a statement.
