Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix returns to South Florida. Here's what you need to know
MIAMI GARDENS — Formula 1 revs up South Florida again.
South Florida Motorsports (SFM), the organizers of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix 2024, say the international racing event will return to Miami Gardens on the first weekend of May at the Miami International Autodrome next to Hard Rock Stadium.
Entering its third year, Miami has been chosen as one of the only six venues to host an F1 Sprint in 2024, meaning there will be an extra race held that Saturday and guaranteeing high-octane action throughout the weekend.
Here's everything you need to know about this year's race.
Tickets and Transportation
Now available for purchase, the General Admission Campus Pass offers three days of on-track action throughout the weekend and across the Autodrome.
For $150 per day, the General Admission Campus Pass offers a variety of views, food, art and entertainment for an immersive F1 weekend to reflect "the culture of Miami throughout," SFM stated.
The pass includes access to the 300 level of Hard Rock Stadium to see the F1 Team Village on the football field, the support paddocks, an expanded F1 Fan Zone, a view of the winners' podium and access to the track at the end of the race. According to the event organizers, the support paddocks access, which hosts the F1 Academy and Porsche series, is new this year for Campus Pass holders.

"As we enter the third year of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, we are proud and excited to welcome fans to our beautiful Campus, which is entirely unique in auto racing and has been thoughtfully imagined and perfected to provide the best fan experience on the Formula 1 calendar."
"This General Admission ticket offers great value for an immersive Formula 1 weekend," Epp continued. "And with the addition of a Sprint race guaranteeing three days of competitive action, all Campus Pass holders will experience everything our race is famous for, from the exciting on-track racing to the very best music, food and culture Miami has to offer."
The next level up from the Campus Passes are the Grandstands. In the Grandstands, Formula 1 enthusiasts will get the chance to sit side by side with fellow racing fans and experience the Grand Prix from a "premier vantage point" in the Miami International Autodrome, according to F1.
There are five three-day package options to choose from:
- Lights Out and Away We Go: The Start/Finish Grandstand Presented by Gainbridge provide a view of the pit lane, starting grid and of course, the start/finish straightaway.
- Party at the Track: The Beach Grandstands provide a view of drivers entering the Turn 11 braking zone and accelerating through Turn 12.
- Ultimate Viewing Experience: The Turn 18 Grandstand allows fans to view drivers accelerate through the "fastest straightaway in Formula 1 and onto one of the best passing zones on the track."
- Speed Trap: The Marina Grandstands offer unique views of Turns 6 and 7, where fans can see drivers navigate through the south straightaway.
- First Corner Frenzy: The Turn 1 North Grandstand lets fans unlock a "premium view" of drivers on the start/finish straightaway as they enter the braking zones into Turns 1, 2 and 3.

And if you can afford it, there are also a variety of premium options as well, where fans can be a part of the most exclusive areas in the Miami Grand Prix's clubs, suites, and other luxury experiences.
For luxury options, fans can experience the world's "most premium hospitality offerings" by indulging in fine dining, guided F1 advenutes and other exclusive amenities, according to F1. Perfect for business or leisure, these spaces promise "sophistication and exclusivity."

For suite options, fans can entertain their guests in a luxurious and private hospitality space at the "heart of the action," according to F1. With the suites, fans can elevate their race weekend with panoramic views, secluded settings and exclusive suites tailored for comfort, privacy and excitement.

And then there are the clubs at the Miami International Autodrome. Like other premium options, the clubs also provide panoramic views and premium food and beverage options. Also, these spaces can accommodate at least two guests.

For pricing, you'll need to call the ticket office. Suppose you can't make all three days or only want to attend certain events. In that case, you can find single tickets to the event on the resale market through sites like TicketMaster, especially for Friday's practice session and the Spring on Saturday.
And if you do manage to snag tickets, be aware of the traffic changes and road closures happening throughout the weekend.
Starting the evening of Thursday, May 2, the north- and southbound exits on Florida's Turnpike on 199th Street will be closed. In addition to the Turnpike closures, 199th Street between Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 14th Court between 6-9 p.m. on Friday, 5-8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and the Turnpike ramps will reopen at 10 p.m. Sunday; so it would be best to carpool if you plan on driving to and from the Autodrome.
If you're not driving, Brightline is offering a special connection to and from Hard Rock at its Aventura station throughout the weekend. Just look out for the "Hard Rock Connect" icon when booking and then take the designated shuttle to the race. Brightline will arrive and depart Aventura every hour throughout the weekend, while the shuttles will depart 10 minutes after trains arrive and return one hour before departing trains. At Hard Rock, the dedicated stop will be at lot 16 near the Gate 3 Pedestrian Bridge.

On the Track
The Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix begins Friday, May 3, and concludes on Sunday, May 5. Below is the preliminary schedule of racing events.
If this is your first time going to an F1 race, here's how it works: 20 drivers race 57 laps around the Autodrome, navigating sharp turns and top-speed straightaways. The cars can reach 235 mph and take corners at over 100 mph. A Grand Prix weekend consists of different practice and qualifying sessions, leading up to Sunday's race.
For the first time, Miami will be one of six locations to host a Sprint race in 2024. Held on Saturday, the Sprint is roughly a third the distance of a Grand Prix and "will guarantee three days of competitive action" in Miami Gardens this year, SFM stated. The other locations to host Sprints include Austin, Texas; China, Austria, Brazil and Qatar.

On track, there will be no changes to the driver lineups for the first time in the sport's history. This means Florida's Logan Sargeant will enjoy another season at Williams Racing as the American driver, who is looking to build on his rookie campaign from last year. According to SFM, Sargeant turned 23 on New Year's Eve and will be keen to increase his points haul going into this season.
One notable change to the 10 teams is the departure of Alfa Romeo, meaning that the Swiss-based Sauber squad will be known as the Stake F1 Team moving forward before Audi takes ownership of the organization full-time in 2026, SFM stated.
However, a new addition to this season will be the F1 Academy — the innovative junior series that has been created to prepare female drivers for higher levels of motorsport competition, to find a future female Formula 1 star. The championship will visit seven different venues this year and every round will form a part of the support package of a Grand Prix weekend. Each team will also feature a car that will be affiliated to one of the 10 F1 teams. Miami is set to host a round during its weekend, which will further add to the action of the third staging of a Formula 1 race at Hard Rock Stadium.
Off-road Activities
Other than watching the fast cars and races, there are plenty of things to do at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.
For starters, there will be a live auction on Saturday night. In partnership with international car auction house Bonhams | Cars, fans will be able to enjoy the display of contemporary, modern supercars and Formula 1 race cars around the Miami campus during the weekend.
Aside from the auction, fans will be delighted to hear that the Hard Rock Beach Club returns for 2024. As one of the most iconic hospitality spaces at the Autodrome, the venue is located on the outside of Turns 11-13 on the track and is the place where "South Beach meets Formula 1," SFM stated.
Exclusively available to Hard Rock Beach Club ticket holders, the space features cabana-style seating, signature pools, bars and all-day cuisine, along with world-class entertainment from top performers such as singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and DJ John Summit. SFM stated that more A-list acts will be announced in the coming weeks. If you're unable to catch these performances live, you can always watch them anywhere at the venue since they will be streamed for all fans throughout the campus.
Speaking of top performers, fans are expected to watch Grammy winner Marc Anthony to perform the national anthem ahead of Sunday's race before drivers start their engines. To cap off the weekend, Grammy-winning DJ and producer Kaytranada will close out the weekend with an on-stage performance following Sunday's trophy presentation.
And if you're unable to make the Miami Grand Prix due to costs, there's always Wynwood's Formula 1 Fan Fast — a weekend-long event where anyone can still get their F1 fix without breaking the bank. At Fan Fest, F1 enthusiasts can view race cars on display, purchase merchandise and even "drive" racing simulators.
One of the biggest activities at Fan Fest is the Red Bull Fan Zone, where attendees can explore a curated selection of racing merch at pop-up shops and event sponsor activation. Here, fans get a chance to cool their engines and refuel with local vendors and enjoy the club atmosphere with live DJ sets.
Fan Fest is also full of delicious food and drinks, where you can grab great grub at booths like North Italia at no cost.
