MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A football player who was once a prized recruit for the University of Miami is now facing legal trouble.

Monday night, Sam Bruce was arrested in South Miami not far from the University of Miami campus.

Police have charged him with marijuana possession after spotting several people getting high in a car.

Just last week Bruce was kicked off the Hurricanes' football team.

The school says that he was late for study halls and AWOL for rehab sessions after breaking his leg.

Bruce's injury occurred at UM while playing pickup basketball, so he never suited up in a football uniform.

Bruce's woes began right after he committed to Miami while still attending St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

He left the school early after a picture surfaced with him holding a gun.

After Monday's arrest, South Miami Police say Bruce was released on his own recognizance.
