MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The Police Officer Assistance Trust hosted its third annual kickball tournament for South Florida law enforcement Saturday.

The Homerun For Heroes tourney took place at Indian Hammocks Park giving dozens of officers a chance to show off their athletic skills on the diamond.

The event also helps raise money to assist officers and their families during times of hardship and crisis.

"It's a fund that helps fallen officers' families when they're in need," said Ofc. Luis Morales of the Miami-Dade Police Dept. "Just out here, having a good time. We have officers from all different stations, different municipalities."

With food and fun for the whole family, even the firefighters couldn't resist joining in.

"What an amazing event. A lot of camaraderie. A lot of fun," said Ofc. Christopher Hodges. "The good thing is now, we've kinda bridged the gap between law enforcement and firefighters. The firefighters are out here supporting us. We support them. It's just a great family event, it's awesome."
