Florida Unemployment At 4.7 Percent For 4th Straight Month

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — Despite adding 22,000 jobs in August, Florida's unemployment remains at 4.7 percent for the fourth straight month.

The state Department of Economic Opportunity reported Friday that there were 454,000 unemployed Floridians out of a workforce of 9.7 million people. Florida remains below the national unemployment rate of 4.9 percent.

Overall, Florida has gained 259,800 jobs in the last year.

Monroe County had the state's lowest unemployment rate at 3.1 percent, followed by St. Johns County at 3.6 percent and Lafayette County at 3.8 percent.

Hendry County had the state's highest unemployment rate at 11.6 percent, followed by Hardee County at 7.3 percent and Glades County at 7 percent.
