DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A robbery went far different than one man anticipated and it cost him his life.
Two South Florida store clerks turned the table on an armed robber and fatally shot him.
Broward Sheriff's officials say Raymond B. Prescott II walked into the Snappy Convenience Store in Deerfield Beach on Friday night, pointed a gun at the clerks and demanded money.
He fired two shots and clerk Dexter Leon returned fire. A second clerk also grabbed a gun from behind the register.
Prescott was shot twice and died at the scene. The clerks and a shopper in the store were not injured. The clerks had only been working at the store for about six months.
Detectives believe Prescott may be involved in similar crimes in Palm Beach and Broward County.
He had a criminal history relating to drug trafficking and was on probation.
