Florida Native Makes Debut With Marlins

GAINESVILLE (AP) — The day before his 25th birthday, pitcher Brian Ellington received the gift of a lifetime. He was leaving the minor leagues to pitch for the Miami Marlins.
Joining the team has been a dream of Ellington's since he played little league in Gainesville. He made his Major League Baseball debut earlier this week with the Miami Marlins, pitching a scoreless ninth inning against the New York Mets.
The Gainesville Sun reports Ellington's fastball topped out between 97 and 98 miles per hour.
Ellington pitched two more scoreless innings Thursday night against the Atlanta Braves and has yet to give up a run in his first three big-league appearances. Ellington has worked primarily out of the bullpen the past two seasons since being drafted by the Marlins in 2012.
