Florida Keys Man Arrested For Threatening Ex-Girlfriend With Machete

RAMROD KEY (CBSMiami) – A Ramrod Key man was taken into custody and arrested on Friday evening for threatening his ex-girlfriend with a machete.
According to the victim, she went to dinner with her two girlfriends and were joined by Kevin Smith, 56, her boyfriend.
Upon returning home, Smith began acting strangely, she said.
He went behind the house and started a bonfire that got too large, so she grabbed a hose to put the fire out.
That's when Smith allegedly grabbed a machete and started swinging it at her, making threats.
The three women retreated into a downstairs room and locked the door before calling 911 for help as Smith banged on the door and wall with the machete, they told police.
Upon arrival, deputies found Smith still on the scene, as well as the machete and damage to the home, which was consistent with the victim's story.
Police charged Smith with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
