TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — A Florida court will hear a case challenging a state law that requires women wanting an abortion to wait at least 24 hours before getting the procedure done.
A state court barred enforcement of the law June 30th, a day before it was set to go into effect. Tuesday's hearing is the state's appeal.
The ACLU filed a lawsuit last June on behalf of a Gainesville-based reproductive health care provider and Medical Students for Choice.
Gov. Rick Scott signed the Informed Patient Consent bill into law after it passed the Senate and House last year. The law allows a physician to perform an abortion in less than 24 hours if the woman is a victim of rape, incest, domestic violence or human trafficking.
