Florida Couple To Fight In Washington For Marriage Equality

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) – On Tuesday the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether same sex couples have the constitutional right to marry in all 50 states.
A Florida couple that has been at the forefront of the debate will be on hand to support the couples arguing that they should be extended the same rights afforded to gay couples in 36 states were it is legal.
Todd and Jeff Delmay, who were part of the Florida lawsuit which led to the legalization of gay marriage in the state, headed out on a plane to Washington on Monday.
"Love must win. It's time for marriage equality," said Todd Delmay.
"We've been through a lot. It will be great to work with others in the same pursuit," said his spouse Jeff Delmay.
"It's a monumental hearing because 14 states don't allow same sex unions," said Fort Lauderdale attorney Alison Smith who specializes in labor law.
Smith said the decision, expected in late June, could be a game changer because it could allow same sex unions to be recognized everywhere.
The Delmays say they are cautiously optimistic.
