Fla. Lottery Department Has Record Setting Week
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - Florida lottery players have scratched their way to a record.
The state's lottery department said people spent more on scratch-off games last week than ever before. In the week beginning February 10th, more than $8.5 million scratch-off ticket were sold. That was $4.5 million more than the previous record setting week in March 2012.
The lottery department added that scratch-off sales in the state have also surpassed the New York Lottery, the highest-selling U.S. lottery, in the past four consecutive weeks.
"Twenty-one Florida Lottery games had sales of more than $1 million last week," said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connellin a statement.
The lottery department said their top sellers were their newest $25 scratch-off game 100X The Cash game ($15 million in sales) and the $20 Gold Rush Tripler game ($9.5 million in sales).
Combined with with other games, the lottery deparment has been averaging more than $100 million in total sales every week for the past seven weeks.
