TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — Now that Jameis Winston has moved on to the NFL the Florida State Seminoles are hoping that his replacement can pick right up where the number one overall pick left off.
Everett Golson will be Florida State's starting quarterback when the No. 10 Seminoles host Texas State on Saturday.
Coach Jimbo Fisher ended the suspense Monday when he made the announcement following practice.
Fisher says Golson "has a good grasp of things. Making reads, plays and getting on the edge with his legs when he has to,"
Golson, a graduate transfer, started 23 games at Notre Dame in 2012 and '14. In 25 games, he threw for 5,850 yards, 41 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He also ran for 14 touchdowns.
Golson was listed third on the preseason depth chart but beat out junior Sean Maguire and redshirt freshman J.J. Cosentino. Golson and Maguire split the reps with the first team the past two weeks.
