"Fifth Beatle" George Martin Dead At 90

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Sir George Martin, considered one of the greatest record producers of all-time, has died, his management confirmed.

Martin produced and arranged most of The Beatles' songs and suggested they replace Pete Best with Ringo Starr.

The news of Martin's death was initially reported by Starr. It later confirmed by Adam Sharp, a founder of CA Management.

 

Paul McCartney also took to Twitter.

 

Sharp said in a statement that Martin passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday evening. No further details were released.

"The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and messages of support," said Sharp, adding that Martin's family has asked for privacy.

During his career, which spanned seven decades, Martin scored several movies and worked with Ella Fitzgerald, Kenny Rogers and Celine Dion, among others.

Martin was considered by many as the "Fifth Beatle." He was 90.
