Fiery, fatal crash in Miami Gardens shuts SR 7 in both directions
MIAMI -- Police in Miami Gardens were investigating an overnight two vehicle crash Thursday morning that left a man dead and another person hurt and prompted the hours long closure of State Road 7 in both directions.
According to investigators, one person was flown to a local hospital for treatment and another person was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither person has been identified by police.
In a written statement, police said they were called to the 200 block of NW 210th Street about a vehicle fire shortly before 3 a.m. The wreck occurred near State Road 7, also known as US Highway 441.
Police said a blue Infinity and a gray Toyota collided, and the Infinity was fully engulfed in flames following the crash.
The man inside the Infinity died while the Toyota driver was hospitalized. Information about that driver's condition was pending.
Police erected yellow crime scene tape as they investigated the incident.
Motorists in the area should consider using the Florida Turnpike or Interstate 95 as alternate routes while the road is closed.
Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Police reopened all lanes of SR 7 shortly before 9 a.m.
