Feds Want Miami Man Who Hid $22.6M In Home Depot Buckets

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A Miami man who hid $22.6 million in cash in orange Home Depot buckets is wanted by Uncle Sam.
According to our news partners at the Miami Herald, Luis Hernandez-Gonzalez wanted his trial to start in state court next month but the feds want him first.
A federal grand jury indicted Hernandez-Gonzalez on money laundering charges which prompted a U.S. district judge to order him to be moved from a Miami-Dade County jail to a federal detention center.
The decision has prompted a legal showdown as his defense lawyers rushed to court Monday to try to convince a state judge to order that Miami-Dade jail refuse the federal authorities.
Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Nushin Sayfie told the paper he couldn't do much since, 'federal law is the supreme law of the land."
Hernandez-Gonzalez's lawyers say they are planning to file an emergency appeal in state court.
This adds another twist to the high-profile case of Hernandez-Gonzalez who was arrested back in June during a record-setting bust in which authorities found 24 orange buckets filled with the cash hidden inside a secret compartment in his Miami Lakes home.
Hernandez-Gonzalez ran a North Miami-Dade store that sold indoor gardening items which cops believed catered to marijuana traffickers growing weed inside their homes.
Authorities raided his home after he was caught giving growing advice over the phone to Miami marijuana growers that were arrested by federal agents.
