MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The FBI has upped the ante in the pursuit of a serial bank robber in South Florida.
The feds believe the man they've dubbed the "Filter Bandit" has robbed six banks, one twice, since last August. They've nicknamed him the "Filter Bandit" because he typically wears a dust filter mask along with dark colored pants and a dark colored hooded sweatshirt during the robberies.
"This is definitely a reckless, dangerous individual," FBI Special Agent Justin Fleck. "We're hoping that image of his face might help the public help us identify this guy."
His spree began in August, 2014 when he robbed a Chase Bank on Cleary Boulevard in Plantation. He struck again in January and February of this year when he robbed the same bank, a TD Bank branch on North Pine Island Road in Plantation, twice.
In March he robbed three banks; a TD Bank and a Chase Bank in Tamarac and a Sun Trust branch in Coral Springs.
His last robbery was June 16th when he held up a BB&T branch on State Road 84 in Davie.
"He comes in the bank brandishing a handgun, demands the money and, in some cases, forces the patrons and customers on the floor of the bank," said Fleck.
The FBI said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
"This is somebody that needs to be arrested as quickly as possible," said Fleck.
They are offering a $5,000 reward for information leads to his arrest and conviction.
