FBI: "Filter Bandit" Robs Plantation Bank On Back-To-Back Days

PLANTATION (CBSMiami) – Authorities said a Plantation bank was robbed on back-to-back days by a serial thief they call the "Filter Bandit."

FBI officials said at around 3:40 p.m. on Friday, the "Filter Bandit" walked into the Chase bank located at 10195 Cleary Blvd. and demanded money from a bank employee.

Money was taken, but the amount will not be released at this time.

Then on Saturday, investigators said he entered the same Chase bank around 2:47 p.m.

This time he pulled out a weapon as he demanded money. Authorities are not saying how much he made away with in this theft.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

The FBI said the "Filter Bandit" could be responsible for a total of nine robberies around Broward.

  • BB&T at 13636 State Rd 84, Davie, Florida on June 16, 2015.
  • SunTrust at 1890 N. University Drive, Coral Springs, Florida on March 31, 2015.
  • Chase Bank at 6001 N. University Drive, Tamarac, Florida on March 27, 2015.
  • TD Bank at 7001 W Commercial Blvd., Tamarac, Florida on March 16, 2015.
  • TD Bank at 1800 North Pine Island Road, Plantation, Florida on February 14, 2015.
  • TD Bank at 1800 North Pine Island Road, Plantation, Florida on January 7, 2015
  • Chase Bank at 10195 Cleary Blvd. Plantation, Florida on August 9, 2014.

 

Investigators are calling this robber the "Filter Bandit" because he typically wears a dust filter mask along with dark-colored pants and a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt during the robberies.

He should be considered armed and dangerous.

The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these armed takeover robberies.
