Southbound lanes open on the Palmetto Expressway after fatal wreck

FHP investigating fatal wreck on Palmetto Expressway in West Miami

WEST MIAMI – A fatal wreck on the Palmetto Expressway early Sunday morning shut down all southbound lanes for several hours.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 3 a.m. 

Investigators say a Honda sedan was traveling south on State Road 826 in the area of SW 8th Street when the driver lost control and collided with a concrete barrier wall. 

The driver died on the scene as a result of his injuries, according to police.

The southbound lanes near and around  SW 8th Street were closed for about three hours as police conducted their investigation. 

A sedan could be seen on the roadway with a smashed window.

Emergency crews were also on the scene.

Troopers diverted traffic at the Dolphin Expressway.
