Family Of Teen Marks Anniversary Of Taser-Related Death
MIAMI (AP) — Relatives of a teen who died after being hit by a police Taser are organizing activities to mark the one year anniversary of his death.
Family members and friends of 18-year-old Israel "Reefa" Hernandez will hold a peaceful demonstration and discuss details of their August commemoration Sunday near the site where police first spied Hernandez spray painting the wall of a Miami Beach fast-food restaurant one year ago.
In March, the medical examiner confirmed the Taser as the cause of Hernandez's death. His relatives want the Miami Beach Police Department and State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle to discipline the officers involved.
Police have said Hernandez ran after they spotted him, ignored their orders to stop and was shocked once with the Taser in the chest. He later died at a hospital.
