Family & Friends Hold Memorial For Good Samaritan Killed In Multi-Car Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The day after police arrested a man, accused of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter, the community came together for the family of one of the three alleged victims.

Christopher Anthony Masferrer was arrested Friday afternoon and faces several charges for allegedly driving under the influence, crashing and killing two teens and a Good Samartian on April 13th.

On Saturday, Masferrer was let out of jail on bond. The same day, Coral Gables first responders held a memorial car wash to benefit the family of Eduardo Hernandez, a city employee.

"We are so grateful for the outpouring of support we've gotten from everybody, the fire department, the police department, our friends.... people we don't even know have come out to support the situation because of the tragic act that was committed," said his wife Fatima Hernandez.

Hernandez was killed nearly two weeks ago when he stopped to help two teens who were victims of a fender bender.]

Caroline Agreda, 17, and Anapaula Saldana,17, got out of their car after being involved in an accident.

Hernandez was passing by, saw the young women and stopped to help, when police said, Masferrer's car slammed into all three, killing them.

"It's horrific and it has affected so many families in so many different ways," said Hernandez.

Police said Masferrer had open beer cans in his car and a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit when he slammed into the three. Family and friends are grateful for the arrest.

"It's bittersweet but we're relieved....and we know how long the police dept worked in this investigation," said Robert Pelier, his best friend. "Typically these investigations take longer than they did. They worked overtime and they worked very hard."

Now they are looking for justice even as they mourn the loss of someone they loved dearly.

"We are confident and trust the State Attorney's Office will also work hard in this case and the court system,Whomever judge that may be, will bring justice to bear on what is an unexplainable, senseless act...that took the life of not only my best friend Eddie Hernandez, but the two 17-year old seniors and have affected tragically and irreversibly many families," said Pelier.

"He was the pillar of our family, so we're strong because of him and we know that he's with us and he's helping us through these hard times," said Hernandez.
