MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A teenager shot at a Sweet 16 birthday party spoke exclusively to CBS4 News.
Kiondae Wilson, 16, continues to recover at the hospital after being shot in the thigh while attending a Sweet 16 in South Miami Heights that also injured five other minors.
"Shots sounded like fireworks and everyone started screaming and running and the music stopped and before I realized, I got shot," said Kiondae. "I was shot in my right thigh and I actually didn't feel it until after surgery."
Cellphone video shows the scene at a home off SW 119th Ave. and 205th St. Saturday night.
The mother who hosted the party said at least 75 minors were there when the shooting happened.
Police say six minors, ranging from 12 to 17 years of age, were shot, among them Kiondae and his friend Andre Foster.
"It's amazing. God was covering those babies. God was covering all six of them. And I'm just thankful no one lost their lives, that they're still here," said Kadisha Wilson, Kiondae's mother.
Miami-Dade police said they arrested 20-year-old Travonta Berry and 18 year olds Dontavis Byrd and Michael Melton for the shooting.
The announcement came as a relief as county officials held a town hall meeting in Goulds to address gun violence Tuesday night.
Kiondae's begun physical therapy and has a long road to recovery but he's optimistic about his future.
"I'm looking forward to getting back in school and making some progress and making good grades," said Kiondae.
Police said the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument at the party.
The three men arrested are charged with attempted murder.
