Driver sought in Hollywood fatal hit-and-run, search on for white Chevy Malibu
MIAMI - The Hollywood Police Department is searching for the driver of a white Chevy Malibu they say struck a pedestrian and then left the scene.
It happened Thursday, just before 9 p.m. near the intersection of Stirling Road and Sarazen Drive, according to authorities.
When officers got to the scene, they attempted to render aid, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
CBS News Miami's Nikiya Carrero spoke to the victim's wife of 20 years.
She says her husband, Rafael Volwider was leaving his English class here at Hollywood Hills High School when it happened.
Hollywood police say the car hit the father of 3 as he was crossing the street to a bus stop.
Iraima Guerrero, his wife, says it was part of their routine. She said they would go to their English class, and then catch the bus home.
On this day, Rafael would never make it home.
"Rafael is, was extraordinary person. A much better father. Very kind people. Many many questions. No answers. I'm really sad," Guerrero said.
Investigators say they believe the vehicle involved is a 2016 – 2018 white Chevy Malibu. They say that the vehicle will have damage to the passenger side.
Police said the Malibu should be missing a passenger-side fog light, as well as, a piece of the front bumper.
