Driver Killed After Reports Of Shooting In Pembroke Pines
PEMBROKE PINES (CBS Miami) — A Homicide Investigation is underway after a 20-year-old man was shot and killed while driving in Pembroke Pines late Monday night.
Officers responded to the area of Douglas Road and Pines Boulevard shortly before 11p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting involving two vehicles on the road.
"Both suspects were stopped in the left turn collection lanes going westbound on Pines Blvd, seemingly to turn south on Douglas road," explained Pembroke Pines Police Captain Adam Feiner. "Once the shooting occurred the victim turned south and the suspect turned north."
The victim drove several blocks south on Douglas Road before crashing into a tree. He was suffering from several gunshot wounds.
The adult male driver was pronounced dead on the scene. People who live nearby heard the gunfire.
"I heard like 6 or 7 shots at my house, last night like around 11pm. It was obviously frightening," said nearby resident Dangelo Cresap.
The victim was identified, but police are not releasing it at the family's request.
Detectives are trying to figure out a motive.
"It does not appear to be a random act of violence," Capt. Feiner said. "What I can suggest based on the investigation, is that the suspect and the victim seemingly know one another or are familiar with the same sets of acquaintances," he said.
Investigators ask anyone with information on the second vehicle involved in the incident to contact Pembroke Pines PD.
