MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A tip to Crime Stoppers led Miami-Dade police to the driver they suspect was involved in a deadly hit and run accident earlier this week.
Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Gary King was heading south on SW 102nd Avenue on his bike when he was struck from behind by a SUV at 171st Street.
The driver of the SUV stopped, got out and went to look at King, 56, who laid bleeding on the ground. He then got back in the SUV and drove off without trying to help or call 911.
King died before help could arrive.
A tip led police to 21-year old Samuel Love and a silver Mercury Mountaineer. Investigators said the vehicle had damages to its front end consistent with the hit and run of King.
Love's girlfriend reportedly told police that he was alone in the SUV when he hit King. She said he texted her the night of the crash and told her what had happened, according to Love's arrest report.
Love was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a fatality.
