Dolphins Vs. Eagles: Odds Lines And Against The Spread Preview

By Abraham Gutierrez

For the second time this season, the (3-5) Miami Dolphins find themselves at a crossroads, as a loss against the (4-4) Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10 would just about eliminate them from playoff contention in the AFC. Coming in losers of two straight games, Dan Campbell and the reeling Fins will have the tall task of trying to right the ship by going into Lincoln Financial Field as eight-point underdogs.

If recent head-to-head ATS trends are any indication, the Dolphins' chances of conquering this challenge are slim. Given the scarce history between the ballclubs, there isn't too much betting information to go by. However, the one (against the spread) statistic that's relevant in this matchup is that Miami is winless in five ATS meetings against Philadelphia (0-5).

Miami Dolphins ATS Trends To Consider (Week 10)

One of the good things about life in the National Football League is that not everything is exactly what it seems. This means that, despite the fact that everything points to a Dolphins loss come Sunday afternoon, anything can, and will likely happen. Unfortunately, that's about where the encouraging signs for a pro-Miami ATS wager end, as most statistics tell a very compelling story heading into this one.

Optimists would say that the Dolphins' ATS record during the month of November is good enough to pull the trigger with a huge eight-point cushion, and to be honest, that doesn't seem like such a bad proposition. The lone ATS stat that suggests there's hope for a Miami cover is that this team is actually 5-2 in their last seven games played during this month.

Also encouraging is the fact that the Eagles haven't exactly set the world on fire with their play thus far this season, which has caught many experts by surprise. Realists would say that the Dolphins are simply not good, either straight-up or against the spread, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that ATS stats support that.

After all, the Dolphins come in with a 2-5 ATS record in their last seven road games, are 2-6 after a straight-up loss, 3-9-1 in their last 13 Week 10 games, and are just 2-7 following a loss against the spread. Finally, Campbell & Co. have shown a tendency to lay down when tested, evidenced by the fact that this franchise is 2-9 after losing by more than 14 points, and a whopping 2-10 after allowing more than 30 points the week prior.

Philadelphia Eagles ATS Trends To Consider (Week 10)

As far as Chip Kelly's Eagles are concerned, their inability to consistently cover the spread this season hasn't affected the overall picture enough to deter pro-Philly ATS bettors. For starters, this club has played very well during the month of November, successfully covering the spread in eight of their last nine games played in the penultimate month of the year.

Secondly, this team has also shown that they beat the teams they are supposed to, entering Week 10 sporting a 6-2 ATS record versus team under .500 like is the case of the Dolphins. Finally, the last bit of positive information is that Philadelphia is 7-3 in its last 10 games played after its offense has accumulated more than 350 yards the week before.
