Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley injured in 16-10 loss to Colts

INDIANAPOLIS - Tyler Goodson ran for one touchdown and Anthony Richardson led the Indianapolis Colts on two fourth-quarter scoring drives to clinch a 16-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Miami has dropped four of five and lost yet another quarterback, Tyler Huntley, to injury Sunday. Huntley left midway through the third quarter with a right shoulder injury and did not return. Tim Boyle finished the game for the reeling Dolphins.

Coach Mike McDaniel said he had no immediate update on Huntley's throwing shoulder.

"He's a tough dude, so coming off the field he was trying to say he was going to be good," McDaniel said. "I think when the paid professionals talked to him about the things he'd have to do in terms of testing, I think he wasn't ... I don't really know the extent of it, but I know it was going to take a lot to keep him out."

It's been a rough start to the season for Miami (2-4), which has already used four different quarterbacks.

The most recent injury occurred when Huntley took a hit in the third quarter Sunday. Huntley made it to the Dolphins sideline under his own power but went into the team's injury tent before heading to the locker room for additional tests.

It didn't take the Dolphins long to rule out Huntley for the rest of the game. He finished 7 of 13 with 87 yards and one TD for his hometown team while running five times for 20 yards on a day the league's lowest-scoring offense struggled yet again.

"I thought he did a good job with command, I thought he gave the offense a chance to win," McDaniel said when asked about Huntley. "I'll have to look at the tape, but there's a couple things that maybe were there that we didn't execute. But I think it's short-sighted to place blame on any one individual. I think he had us in position to win and that's all you can ask for."

The bigger question for the Dolphins is what's next?

Miami's starter, Tua Tagovailoa, is eligible to come off the injured reserve list this week after missing four games with his most recent concussion. Tagovailoa has been in the concussion protocol but his practice window opens Wednesday.

McDaniel declined to discuss the Dolphins' plans for their starter Sunday — or whether Tagovailoa could return with a Guardian helmet like running back De'Von Achane did after being cleared through the concussion protocol. The helmet is designed for impact reduction.

Tagovailoa is set to resume practicing this week with hopes of playing next Sunday at home against the Arizona Cardinals, sources confirmed to ESPN and The Athletic on Saturday.

Boyle finished the game and was 8 of 13 for 74 yards after replacing Huntley. Skylar Thompson, who suffered a rib injury during his first start of the season — a Week 3 loss at Seattle, was designated the emergency third quarterback Sunday.

Boyle was activated Saturday from the practice squad.

Boyle had appeared in 21 career games with five starts with Green Bay (2019-20), Detroit (2021), Chicago (2022), the New York Jets (2023) and Miami (2024).

Huntley was signed from the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad and started his first game two weeks later after an injury to Skylar Thompso Thompson.

Matt Gay's 22-yard field goal with 8:41 left in the game gave Indy its first lead, and a defensive stop at the Indianapolis 33-yard line in the final minute sealed the victory over the NFL's lowest-scoring team.

The Dolphins had a chance to tie the score on a 54-yard field goal with 5:14 to go, but Jason Sanders' kick hit the left upright and bounced harmlessly into the end zone.

Indy (4-3) has won four of its past five and three straight home games since a loss to Houston in its opener.

Richardson was 10 of 24 with 129 yards and rushed 14 times for 56 yards while losing a fumble in his first action since Week 4. Goodson had 14 carries for 51 yards.
