DELRAY BEACH (CBSMiami) – The Delray Beach online arms dealer reportedly linked to a gun used by Islamic militants in the Paris attacks that killed 130 people issued a statement Friday.
The Associated Press broke the news Thursday after a Serbian arms dealer told them the M92 semi-automatic pistol's serial number matched one his company delivered to Century Arms in Delray Beach in May 2013.
The M92 is legal in America in its original semi-automatic state.
However, the M92 recovered in Paris was modified, something Milojko Brzakovic of the Zastava arms factory said his company did not do before shipping it to the U.S.
So the question remains: How did that pistol, which was highly modified when found, get from Serbia to the Delray Beach company and then back to Europe?
Century Arms released a statement on the gun's reported journey:
"We have an unconfirmed report that a pistol, that was legally imported into the United States and legally sold to a licensed, domestic firearms dealer more than two year ago, may have been recovered from the scene of the Paris shootings. We are unable to confirm that report, but are assisting authorities with their investigation into this matter."
Brzakovic insisted that all arms exports from Serbia are under strict government control.
"We submit a request to our government to give consent and authorize the export. Until we receive that, we make no contract. Once we get a permission to export, we make a contract and arrange the dynamics," he said.
Century Arms says the same happens stateside.
"Century expects the firearms it ships to licensed firearms dealers in the United States to be sold in strict compliance with the law. United States law forbids the selling or transfer of a firearm to anyone outside this country without approval from the United States Department of State."
