Death of Tamarac woman investigated as homicide

MIAMI - Crime scene investigators and detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office searched for clues on Thursday in the murder of a 23-year-old woman whose body was discovered in her 2nd-floor apartment.

BSO said it happened at the Tamarac Village apartment complex near Commercial Boulevard at 9322 N.W. 57th St.

BSO Spokeswoman Claudinne Caro told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, "We received a call reporting an unresponsive female in her home.

Immediately, district deputies went to the scene along with Broward Fire Rescue and they were able to locate an adult female who was pronounced deceased. Detectives are following leads and are not releasing any leads at this time."

"It's puzzling you know, just puzzling," said neighbor Kaleem. "Everybody is so nervous and terrified."

So BSO is not saying if they have a motive or any information to release about any possible suspects.

As of 4 p.m. on Thursday, 24 hours after the crime was reported, a BSO Forensic Response Unit was still on the scene.

Matthew Thomas and his brother Frederick live at the complex and they both said they recognized Hodgson when we showed them her photo. The victim's friends and other neighbors identified her to CBS4.

Matthew Thomas said, "Oh my God, this is terrible, man. I don't even know who did it. It's even scary to residents like ourselves. I didn't know her personally but I have seen her walking around. She seemed like an outstanding person. This is scary man. This was crazy."

Frederic Thomas said,  "I have just seen here. I do know that we need some justice and the murderer needs to be caught. It is as simple as that. This is a life cut short. I feel bad. My prayers go out to her family."

Anyone with information that can help find the killer should call the Broward Sheriff's Office or Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477). There is a reward of up to $5,000.
