Deadly double shooting near Fort Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE - One person was killed and another injured in an overnight shooting near Fort Lauderdale.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said just before 2:45 a.m. it received a ShotSpotter alert in the 1400 block of NW 27th Avenue, which is west of I-95 and north of Sunrise Boulevard.
The shooting happened a few blocks from Dillard High School.
"It was like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom," said Steve Archer.
Archer said he was in bed after a long day of work when he heard the gunfire just steps from his home.
"I heard like ten big gunshots and then after that, about two minutes later, then another ten big gun shots," he said.
Arriving deputies and fire rescue personnel found the body of a man who had been shot. The sheriff's office said they also found a second person with gunshot wounds who was taken to the hospital.
Archer said the neighborhood gets rowdy and last night was no exception.
"Kids, you know. People coming out, they could've gotten caught in the crossfire and could've been killed. It's just crazy around here," said Archer.
"All of them crowded around here, drinking and smoking. I'm like I'm going to get away from here because I felt some bad vibes, something was about to happen," he added.
Detectives are now trying to determine what led to the shooting.
