Deadly Accident On SW 8th Street

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A woman and child died after a truck plunged into a canal on SW 8th Street about seven miles west of SW 177th Avenue/Krome Avenue.

Joe Sanchez, with the Florida Highway Patrol, said the woman, identified as 41-year old Farren Cypress, and two toddlers, two-year old Wyatt Rockwell and one-year old Seraphina Rockwell, were heading westbound around 1:30 a.m. when she lost control and veered into the eastbound lanes. She then swerved back into the westbound lanes, crashed through a guardrail and ended up in the canal.

"A passerby that was traveling westbound on the trail saw the damage on the guard rail and called the police," said Sanchez.

Arriving officers found the truck completely submerged and Seraphina floating in the water. Cypress and Wyatt were still in the truck.

The children had not been properly restrained in the truck, according to FHP accident investigators.

Cypress, a member of the Miccosukee Tribe, was pronounced dead on the scene. The toddlers were airlifted to Nicklaus Children's Hospital where Wyatt died. Seraphina was listed in critical condition.
