MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami-Dade police are investigating a murder-suicide involving two men in a parking lot adjacent to Miami International Airport.
Chopper4 over the scene spotted a tarp covered body on the ground in an airport employee lot at NW 45th Avenue and NW 15th Street. A second body was slumped against a vehicle a short distance away.
Police say they received reports of shots fired and arriving officers found the bodies.
"They discovered two males. The first male, described as a white male in his late 50s to early 60s, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest area. A second male was discovered in between parked vehicles. He was described as being a white male in his late 40s," said Miami-Dade Detective Marjorie Eloi.
The second man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
Investigators believe the two Miami International Airport employees were coming to work around 6 a.m. when something happened. A witness told police the men were heard arguing and then shots were fired.
At this time police are not releasing any information about their relationship or the motive behind the shooting.
"These were not county employees, I can confirm that. There are 30,000 plus employees who work at the airport and about 1,400 are county employees," said airport spokesman Greg Chin. "I can confirm that they are not county employees."
Information concerning what they did at the airport and how long they've worked there has not been released.
Some Miami Airport employees and volunteers who park in the employee lots told CBS4's Peter D'Oench they were startled by the shooting.
Michael Pelton, who parks in one of the lots and who volunteers at the airport, said, "It's employees. They shouldn't be doing this. Sadly to say it's the time. Years ago you never heard anything like this but nowadays it doesn't surprise me that a day doesn't go by without somebody getting shot by somebody. I think it's temper these days. People don't have any self control. If you're going to commit suicide, shoot yourself. Don't shoot somebody else then yourself."
Detectives say they have recovered the firearm that was used. They are urging witnesses and anyone with information about this case to come forward or call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
