DAR Dedicates Stone Marker To Historic South Florida Home

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – One of South Florida's most historic structures now has a permanent stone marker.
On Saturday, May 30th, the marker was unveiled in a ceremony at the Sample-McDougald House at 450 NE 10th Street in Pompano Beach.
The Sample-McDougald House is a 17-room Georgian Colonial home that has been restored and is on the United States National Register of Historic Places.
It took millions of dollars, many years of hard work and plenty of volunteer hours to restore the nearly 100-year-old home.
The feat gained the attention of the Broward County Regents Council National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
The Regents Council includes the five DAR chapters from the county.
They decided to raise money to dedicate the marker, which has a plaque with the DAR insignia recognizing the Sample-McDougald House Preservation Society.
"The house is a jewel," said Sally Alshouse, Broward County Regents Council co-chair of the event. "The marker honors all the work, blood sweat and tears that went into preserving the home. Our three primary missions are to promote historical preservation, education and patriotism."
It took four years to make the marker a reality. The DAR raised over $4600 in the process.
The Daughters of the American Revolution trace their heritage to someone who either served in the Revolutionary War or provided aid to the militia.
Prominent DAR members include former First Lady Laura Bush and Hollywood legendary actress Ginger Rogers.
