MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Good news for drivers who use Miami-Dade's expressways.
The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) has announced a toll freeze.
In announcing no new increases the board's chairwoman, Maritza Gutierrez, said MDX plans to complete upgrades and modernization projects listed on their five-year plan using the current financing plan.
"These improvements are our promise to the community to provide much needed mobility and to contribute to the growth and economic well-being of Miami-Dade County. By taking off the table the possibility of future toll increases, the conversation is kept of what's important… to do what MDX has always done, deliver what has been promised," said Gutierrez in a statement.
The board came under heavy criticism last year when they increased tolls by as much as 50-percent.
MDX operates and maintains five expressways: SR 112/Airport Expressway, SR 836/Dolphin Expressway, SR 874/Don Shula Expressway, SR 878/Snapper Creek Expressway, and SR 924/Gratigny Parkway.
