Cuban Migrants Dropped Off At Virginia Key Beach
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents detained a Cuban migrant who came ashore on Virginia Key Beach Monday morning.
The U.S. Coast Guard joined with Customs and Border Protection to search for two other migrants who were still missing after the homemade boat broke down.
Miami Police said the three stranded men were rescued by a fisherman and then brought to shore.
"Right now, it doesn't look like there's anyone stranded out there at all," said U.S. Customer and Border Protection agent Andre Roberts. "He said that no one was in the water and everybody is safe."
One man in his late 60's was spotted by a park employee and picked up by law enforcement. The older man told police he was trying to get to his family in New York. Agents said the man will likely be allowed to stay in the U.S.
"I'm pretty sure he is, unless he has some major criminal history, but I think he seems like a great old man and I don't think there is any problems," said agent Roberts.
