Crist Campaign Gets Cash Infusion, Still Trails Scott

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist and his supporters were busy adding to the campaign's coffers in the last week or two.

With infusions of cash from teachers unions and state matching funds, Crist and a closely aligned political committee raised a combined $25 million as of Sept. 5, according to newly filed reports.

Crist's campaign collected $363,101 from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5, giving it an overall total of $7,030,919. The report from the latest period included $137,699 in state matching funds. Crist's campaign also had spent $3,124,060 as of Sept. 5.

The political committee, known as "Charlie Crist for Florida," collected $1,517,450 during the period, giving it an overall total of $17,710,741.

The American Federation of Teachers and the Florida Education Association combined to give $750,000 to the committee during the latest period. The committee also had spent $10,267,814 as of Sept. 5.

Crist's campaign remains far behind the fundraising of incumbent Republican Rick Scott and the Scott-aligned "Let's Get to Work" committee. Scott got a boost from the Republican Governors Association, which contributed $2 million early this month to "Let's Get to Work." In all, the Scott committee had raised a total of $37,816,927 as of Sept. 5, while spending $26,775,405. Scott's campaign raised $160,758 from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5, giving it an overall total of $7,699,999, the reports show. It had spent a total of $1,967,937.
