It happened at around 5 p.m., along NE 111th Street and 14th Avenue.

The crane's telescopic boom fell on the corner of one of the structures, causing damage to one of the units.

Andrea Guerra, resident of the affected structure, said 50 percent of her unit was destroyed. She said the crane fell in the room where she keeps her baby's crib. She also said it was a miracle that she was not home when it happened.

Guerra and her baby will be spending the night at a hotel after being told it's too dangerous to stay there.

FPL said, through a statement, that this incident occurred because of contractors working on a line in the neighborhood.

No word if the main hoist caused damage to any other structures on its way down.

A crane of this size is usually used to move heavy objects or prebuilt structures such as sheds. As of Thursday, crews were stilling working on removing the large machine out of the neighborhood as it continues to impact traffic in the area.

There were several FPL trucks at the scene working to restore power to about 100 area residents. Some residents have complained to CBS News Miami's Ivan Taylor that they still do not have electricity, despite FPL telling customers that power has been restored to the area.
