FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A couple's life together was cut short after a chain reaction crash in Ft. Lauderdale claimed their lives.

Steven Olivert, 35, and his finance, Danielle Baldwin, 32, were heading out to a dinner date Friday night when they were struck by a 2016 Kia while sitting at a traffic light at Oakland Park Boulevard and N Federal Highway.

The force of the impact drove Olivert's Nissan into a gray 2016 Chrysler, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Olivert was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Over the weekend, Baldwin's family made the heart breaking decision to remove her from life support.

Police say the man behind the wheel of the Kia, who they suspect was driving drunk, also crashed into two other vehicles that night; no one was seriously hurt.  He then took off on foot.

The man was eventually found and taken to Imperial Point Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police are treating this as a DUI investigation and charges are pending.
